Wayne's Roofing Celebrates Success at Western Regional Roofers Apprenticeship Competition
Winner, Osiel Luevanos, was hard at work during the competition.
We're proud to announce an outstanding achievement from the recent Western Regional Roofers Apprenticeship Competition, where Wayne's Roofing's own Osiel Luevanos took first place in the Intermediate Category. The competition, held November 1-2, 2024, at the Pierce County Roofers Training Facility at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, WA, brought together 15 of the most talented apprentice roofers from Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii.
At Wayne's Roofing, we've long recognized that our success is built on developing skilled professionals through comprehensive apprenticeship programs. Since 1969, we've maintained a strong commitment to training the next generation of roofing specialists, and our involvement in apprenticeship programs remains a cornerstone of our company's values.
Supporting Apprenticeship
Our dedication to apprenticeship excellence is reflected in our leadership's active involvement in training programs. Dan Johnson, our Executive Vice President/COO, serves as the Chairman for the Pierce County Roofers Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, while Don Guthrie, our Chairman and CFO, serves as alternate chairman. Their leadership in these roles demonstrates our company's ongoing commitment to advancing the roofing industry through education and professional development.
The Competition
The competition, hosted by the Pierce County Roofers JATC Apprenticeship Program in collaboration with the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers & Allied Workers Local 153, showcased the highest standards of craftsmanship in our industry. We were particularly honored to have industry experts Justin Maples and Terry Combs, both experienced Foremen for Wayne’s, volunteer their time and expertise to support this important event.
Osiel Luevanos's first-place victory in the Intermediate Category not only brings pride to Wayne's Roofing but also qualifies him for the national competition in the Beginner category. He will represent the Western United States at the national competition scheduled for May 12-16, 2025, hosted by Local 96 in Minnesota.
This achievement reflects our company's longstanding tradition of excellence and our commitment to developing skilled professionals through apprenticeship programs. Many of our current leaders, and long-time dedicated roofers, started their careers with Wayne's Roofing as apprentices. Their success stories exemplify how apprenticeship programs can lead to rewarding, lifelong careers in commercial roofing.
We believe that investing in apprenticeship programs is crucial for maintaining the high standards of quality and safety that our clients have come to expect from Wayne's Roofing. Through these programs, we ensure that our team members receive comprehensive training in the latest roofing technologies, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
As we look forward to the national competition in May 2025, we're reminded that our founder Wayne Wetherbee's philosophy still rings true today: "It takes everyone to get the job done and everyone's job is equally important." We're proud to continue his legacy by supporting and developing the next generation of roofing professionals through apprenticeship programs.
Congratulations again to Osiel Luevanos, and thank you to all who participated in and supported this important industry event. Your dedication to excellence keeps Wayne's Roofing at the forefront of commercial roofing in the Pacific Northwest.
