Wayne Wetherbee Inducted Into the Bethel School District Hall of Fame
This month, the founder of Wayne’s Roofing, Inc., Wayne Wetherbee, who passed in 2000, was inducted into the Bethel School District Hall of Fame for his contributions to the 1962-63 Wrestling Team.
Wrestling is a unique sport and requires great individual efforts for six long minutes with no assistance. You are part of a team, and the object is to work as hard as possible to make the team better. In 1962-63 the team trained under coach Frank Pavia. Training in a chicken coop with a wood stove for heat. This team was the best that the Bethel Braves ever produced, providing Bethel with its first State Championship. It would be another 38 years before the Bethel School District would surpass the 1962-63 team’s accomplishments.
Wayne worked hard in everything he did. He had a dream of being the best roofing contractor in the state, and in 1969, Wayne and his wife Kitty took steps to follow their dream of owning their own roofing company.
Wayne gained a solid customer base by creating and building relationships. His handshake was his word. His clients knew that he could be trusted to perform quality work and meet the commitments of the project. From the inception of his company in 1969, to his passing in 2000, Wayne turned his roofing company into one of the most professional and reliable roofing companies in the state of Washington.
A great part of Wayne’s success was his ability to cultivate a group of strong individuals at all levels of the company that could work well together as a “Team.” His motto was, “it doesn’t matter if you’re the Janitor or the President, it takes everyone to get the job done and everyone’s job is equally important.”
