September is Suicide Prevention Month
As part of its commitment to safety in the roofing industry, Wayne’s Roofing is committed to promoting awareness of mental health, and suicide.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the suicide rate in construction occupations is nearly four times greater than the national average and five times greater than that of all other construction fatalities combined.
The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), one of the U.S. construction industry's trade associations and a voice in the roofing industry, is a member of the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention. This is a group of key industry organizations who have recognized and are committed to promoting the safety and well-being of construction workers. Their mission is “to provide and disseminate information and resources for suicide prevention and mental health promotion in construction with the goal of creating a zero-suicide industry.” Part of NRCA’s commitment to the roofing industry involves periodically sharing these suicide-prevention resources.
The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention offers resources on its website HERE, including published articles, information, and other resources.
The mental well-being of a company’s workforce is equally as important as their physical well-being. If anyone is struggling with mental health issues, they may ignore all efforts of protection and could be a danger to themselves and others. If you know someone who may be struggling, please do not hesitate to contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 800-273-8255, or explore their website for more resources HERE. They can provide free and confidential support for people in distress, and prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones.
